Bio BeeTM Potentiated Bee Pollen Details
Pollen is a wonderful food - full of Nature's Goodness. Potentiation makes it even better.
What is pollen?
Pollen is a special tissue produced in the stamen part of the flower in flowering plants. It is designed to carry the male DNA safely to the female egg so that reproduction can occur and a seed formed. It contains the vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids, proteins, antioxidants and all the nutrition to sustain life for the essential task carried out by the pollen. Pollen is so essential that the plant provides it with the very best of nutrition, just as we provide for our children.
Pollen can be transported by wind, such as with Pine, or by insects, such as with roses. Our special product only uses pollen collected by honey bees.
When foraging, the bee climbs over the stamen to reach the nectar deep in the flower and brushes against the pollen. It may also emit a high pitched buzz to loosen the pollen to make it easier to collect.
The pollen covers the body of the bee. The bee brushes off the pollen and pushes it into sacs, pollen baskets, on its hind legs (like cargo pants pockets) and packs it down in these pollen baskets hard.
As the bee travels from flower to flower, it collects a variety of pollen which it takes back to the hive. As the bees return to the hive, they scramble through a patented pollen trap, which gently brushes off some, but not all, of the pollen into collection trays. The bees are not harmed by this process, neither are they entirely stripped of pollen, which they need as their protein food source.
Note that pollen is a product of the plant, not the bee. All the bee does is collect it.
Pollen cells are small, light and the nutrition in the cell is relatively dry and concentrated, hence it is valuable for human consumption. Our pollen is collected from New Zealand wild flowers. It is a highly concentrated vegetable food with all the essential nutrients to maintain life.
The History of Bee Pollen.
All through history pollen has been referred to as a complete food. Pollen was used as a food and tonic in Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, European, Inca, and North American Indian history. Hypocrites and Pythagoras both prescribed bee pollen for its healing properties and American Indians wore pouches containing Bee Pollen around their necks to eat on long journeys to sustain a high energy level. In these ancient cultures pollen was surrounded by mystique; offering long life, improved sexual prowess and prolonged wellness. Scientists have studied pollen in modern times and have confirmed that it is a near perfect food containing all 22 elements that our body needs and will confirm many benefits when taken regularly.
Honey and pollen combination was used to treat burns and other skin injuries in India and South America. Bee Pollen mixed with honey and warm milk has traditionally been used for sore throats and laryngitis. in Europe. Honey and pollen poultices were used for treatment of respiratory ailments including bronchitis and asthma. Bee Pollen was also an ingredient used for an Oriental anti-ageing formulation along with honey, ginseng and orange peel.
Nutritional Value of Bee Pollen.
Bee pollen contains most known nutrients, including those necessary for human survival. When compared to any other food it contains a higher percentage of all necessary nutrients. It contains at least 18 amino acids, more than 27 vitamins, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes or co-enzymes, 24 beneficial fatty acids, and 11 carbohydrates, and is rich in minerals but low in calories. It is a very rich source of flavonoid antioxidants, perhaps the richest known. These antioxidants protect against ageing and many illnesses caused by free radicals, such as produced by radiation, chemicals and other pollutants. Of all natural foods bee pollen is claimed to be the most complete and complex. All these nutrients are in a natural perfectly balanced cell of pollen and bees instinctively collect the best pollen. They also collect pollen species that contain little water as they do not want to be carting water back to their hives. So the pollen collected is nutrient rich and you, as a consumer, get the advantage of buying nutrition - not water.
Bee pollen differs from area to area and collection times during the year. This variation explains why capsules vary in colour during the year. Indeed, multifloral wild flower pollen is the best and one should expect some variation depending which plants are in flower.

1) All values are based on amount in the quality or food that provides 1000 kcal of energy. The foods were: bee pollen, fresh new tomato, cabbage, apple, fried chicken leg and breast, whole wheat bread, broiled sirloin beefsteak.
2) Each food is ranked from 7 (highest nutrient content) to 0 (lowest nutrient content) for each of the 11 nutrient categories. Because increased levels of fat and sodium is considered detrimental to health the ratings are reversed (7 lowest to 0 highest) for these two nutrients. The Rank Score is the total of the 11 rankings for each food, lowest score 0 and highest 77.
Besides the clear nutritional advantage shown in the table, Potentiated Pollen also has 8000 micromoles of antioxidants (by TEAC) per 100 mg making it oneof the richest natural sources of antioxidants.
Essential Amino Acids & Protein
Amino acids are the Building Blocks of proteins- and average 20-25% of the dry matter of pollen. They are divided into nonessential and essential amino acids. We can synthesise the nonessential amino acids, but we cannot make the essential amino acids and must obtain them from our food. Therefore, it's essential that we eat food rich in nonessential amino acids. Plant foods tend to be deficient in these essential nutrients, but pollen, though plant based, is a particularly rich source.
Amino acid composition
Isoleucine 4.5% Alanine, Leucine 6.7% Arginine 4.7%, Lysine 5.7% Aspartic Acid, Methionine 1.8% Cystine 0.6%, Phenylalanine 3.9% Glutamic Acid 0.1%
Threonine 4.0% Glycine, Tryptophan 1.3% Histidine 1.5%, Valine 5.7% Proline, Serine Tyrosine
Vitamins
These are vital. We cannot synthesise these compounds ourselves and must obtain them in our food. A diet deficient in one essential nutrient can result in ill health. Pollen is reported to be the richest natural source of these essential nutritional requirements known.

Potentiated Bee Pollen
Here is a pollen grain that has been cracked open by potentiation. The nutritious inner material has been forced out of the cell so that it is accessible for digestion.
The unique potentiation process uses an inert, fully mechanised and computer-controlled system so that there is no contact with the surrounding air or with human hands, so that there is no degradation or oxidation of the pollen during processing. The process breaks the cell wall exposing the pollen's core material, its cytoplasm, for digestion without damaging it in any way. It is like breaking open a walnut shell. So in a nutshell, potentiation is a wonderful process that enables your digestive enzymes to get access to those nutrients that are otherwise unavailable for digestion, and so it enables you to utilise them for your body's enhanced performance.
The pollen grain has a tough outer wall made of cellulose and lignin, components of wood that are poorly digestible. The wall is designed to protect the pollen, especially its precious DNA, so that it can withstand dehydration and radiation (sunburn) damage on its long journey from the male plant to the female plant to create new plant life. When the pollen grain arrives on the female part of the flower it germinates. A pollen tube bearing the male DNA forms and bursts through the tough pollen coat and grows down to the ovule where the male and female DNA unite to form a new organism - an embryo that grows to form a seed. The length of the pollen tube can be considerable - look at a corn flower and see how far the tube has to travel to reach the ovule. In this plant, the embryo forms the corn seed which we eat as sweet corn.
The toughness of the outer wall of pollen, though essential for the protection of the goodness within, present difficulties in digestion when you eat pollen. This wall prevents the digestive enzymes in the human digestive system from accessing the rich nutrients locked up within the tough, impermeable cell coat. The body can access only a portion of nutritional value within unpotentiated pollen. The cell coat of pollen is so indigestible and tough that it persists for thousands of years in bogs, etc.
Potentiation means to make more potent. Potentiation is a patented process that cracks the cell wall of the pollen so that the nutrients are more digestible. It is purely a physical process that does not alter the nutrients in pollen in any way.
Uses of Potentiated Bee Pollen
The uses of Bee Pollen are many and varied. Full nutrition boosts energy, fortifies the immune system, aids digestion, improves mood, sleep, strengthens nails, and beautifies the skin and hair as it assists cell renewal. Many regular pollen users say they feel so well that they can cope with stress better, and they have more powers of concentration, and lots of zest and energy and vitality. They are simply very much more well.
Bee pollen contains essential amino acids used in the body for life and growth. Vitamin C, and the flavonoid antioxidants are used to boost the immune system and ward off colds and influenzas. The B vitamin group enhances energy and mental alertness. Calcium is for bone strength. Zinc is for reproduction. Magnesium helps overcome muscle weakness and sleep. And the list goes on and on.
Our potentiated bee pollen has been used for elite athletes to enhance energy and recovery time. In fact, the American Track and Field team to the Olympic 2000 games used our pollen and did extremely well. Horse trainers use our pollen to enhance performance in a natural way for racehorses.
Bee Pollen is rich in lecithin which helps break down fats thus helping to stabilise faulty fat metabolism and aid weight control. Bee pollen has a soothing effect on the intestinal tract along with a natural lubricant effect. It can aid constipation and wind. Bee pollen helps the body resist infection.
Primary applications of Bee Pollen
- Allergies
- Anaemia
- Antibiotic
- Appetite (can act as a stimulant or suppressant depending on need)
- Asthma
- Blood builder
- Capillary weakness
- Chronic fatigue
- Immune system booster
- Impotence
- Infertility
- Kidney disorders
- Longevity
- Menopausal symptoms
- Prostate diseases
- Ulcers
Helping you develop resistance to allergies is exactly what many experts believe Bee Pollen can accomplish. By inhibiting the histamine-producing inflammatory response of the immune system, Bee Pollen decreases the miserable symptoms of allergic reactions (ie: itchy, watery eyes, red, swollen nose, etc). Quercitin, a bioflavonoid, is in Bee Pollen and significantly inhibits the production and release of histamine. Clearly it contributes to the ability of Bee Pollen to decrease allergic responses.
Many individuals who suffer from pollen allergies and hay fever can safely take Bee Pollen. Consider the following data:
73% of patients with hay fever averaged a 75% improvement when given Bee Pollen orally.
78% of asthma patients averaged a 75% improvement after taking Bee Pollen
17.8% of hay fever sufferers and 33.3% of asthmatics experience a complete improvement on oral Bee Pollen supplements.
Bee Pollen can also be used for weight control and reduction. Generally speaking, if weight loss is desired, Bee Pollen should be taken alone on an empty stomach. The reasoning behind this is based on the fact that Bee Pollen boosts the rate of calorie burning or thermogenesis.
Radiation, chemical pollutants and a whole host of allergens constantly assault our immune systems, creating all kinds of havoc with our antibody responses, while bombarding our cells with dangerous free radicals. Many of us are unaware that Bee Pollen is an excellent free radical scavenger that can effectively protect our bodies from the devastating side effects of pollutant or radiation exposure. Clinical documentation has supported the ability of Bee Pollen to counteract the effect these toxins have on human health.
Bee Pollen contains quantities of a natural antibiotic which fights E. coli and Proteus organisms which can cause serious diseases. The antibiotic action of Bee Pollen was found to be effective against salmonella and other species.
Several laboratory tests have found that a particular compound in the pollen inhibits the growth of several types of harmful bacteria.
The anti-ageing properties of Bee Pollen have been the focus of more attention as large numbers of baby boomers enter middle age and beyond. Russian researchers gave as the reason why a certain group of Russians had lived to be over 100 years old as being because the common food shared among these people was honey. The honey contained the waste product from the beehive that was almost 100% pure pollen. These poor bee keepers could not sell this pollen-contaminated honey, so had to eat it themselves. What a fortunate outcome! Additional research found that pollen-eating Russians enjoyed much longer sexual potency and fertility. Some studies also have suggested that taking pollen can reverse the ageing process seen in skin that lacks elasticity. For this reason, in some countries, Bee Pollen is used as an anti-ageing cosmetic firming skin and restoring skin tone.
A report in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute of October 1948 stated that Bee Pollen was given to laboratory test animals which had been bred to develop tumours. The authors found that certain amounts of Bee Pollen appeared to either prevent or inhibit the growth of malignant cells. Adding Bee Pollen to food can act as a significant anti-carcinogenic component. Advantageously, not a large amount is required to create this effect.
Dose and Administration
Adult dose: Two capsules in the morning in normal circumstances but can be increased to take two extra capsules at lunchtime for extra energy. Capsules taken later in the day will tend to keep the person awake longer in the evening. Children 2 years and over should be given one capsule a day in the morning. The capsule can be opened and sprinkled on soft food for easy swallowing. For children under 2 years please consult your health professional.
Pregnant or lactating women: Two capsules in the morning with large glass of water.
Contra indications
There are no known contraindications, Bee Pollen is a natural food and is well tolerated.
Warnings and Precautions
Bee pollen is an addition to a balanced diet, not a replacement.
People suffering from asthma or who are allergic to Bee products are recommended to use this product under guidance of their Health Professional. However, people allergic to bee stings are not at risk from this product since it is produced from plants, and not bees.
Bio Bee - Frequently Asked Questions
Will it cause hay fever?
Hay fever is generally brought on when wind-dispersed pollen is released. During such seasons the pollen is accidentally sniffed up the nose and germinates on the moist nasal mucosa. Pollens released by the germinating pollen tube cause local allergic reactions associated with hay fever. Potentiated pollen is not wind-dispersed pollen, it is taken orally, and it cannot germinate, so no known cases have been reported of it causing hay fever. Indeed, some medial practitioners use it to control or eliminate hay fever in subjects who are prone to hay fever. Far from being a cause it can be a cure.
Can an asthmatic take Potentiated Bee Pollen?
In general, yes because our Bee Pollen is ingested as opposed to inhaled and generally doesn't create a problem with asthmatics. In some very infrequent instances the Pollen will induce mild asthmatic symptoms if the trigger factors for their asthma includes pollens. It is suggested that the person concerned who is contemplating starting on Bee Pollen capsules should start with one capsule a day over a week. Watch for tight chest and wheezing in that week. If there are none of these symptoms then increase to normal dose of two capsules a day when ready.
Can a diabetic take Potentiated Bee Pollen?
Yes, there are no sugars or carbohydrates in sufficient quantity to pose a problem.
Can Potentiated Bee Pollen be taken during pregnancy?
Yes, our Bee Pollen is a food and provides many of the nutrients needed in pregnancy. But doesn't substitute for a balanced diet.
Can Potentiated Bee Pollen be taken if you suffer from allergies?
Yes in general, though this is dependent on the person and the type of allergies. Those people who have pollen sensitivities and who cannot not tolerate inhaled pollens may be able to take our pollen because it is swallowed rather than breathed in. Others may be sensitive and develop a slight rash generally on the arms and at other times stomach upsets. These reactions are rare, and pollen is normally very well tolerated, but it is recommended that people with known allergies to pollen proceed with caution and take a reduced dose.
Can Potentiated Bee Pollen be taken with other medication and vitamin supplements?
Yes, there are no contraindications with other medications or vitamin supplements including medications for high blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, hormonal replacements, bronchodilators etc. If the person wishes to continue with their vitamin mineral supplement they can do so but may find after a period of time on both that the Bee Pollen will provide all the nutrition necessary and they can drop the additional vitamins. Those women taking additional calcium may wish to continue with that supplement
What dose of Potentiated Bee Pollen would a child take?
Those children over two and up to 12 years old should take one capsule a day. The capsules can be opened (not inhaled or sniffed) and sprinkled onto soft food and taken with the food if it is difficult to swallow a whole capsule. A child over 12 can take two capsules a day. Those parents with children under 2 years old should consult their medical professional.
Is Potentiated Bee Pollen suitable for vegetarians?
The pollen is entirely a plant product collected from the stamen of the flower, the capsules are made from Beef gelatine, but vege caps can be sent if requested - vege caps are made entirely from plant matter.
Can Potentiated Bee Pollen be taken if there is a bee allergy?
Yes, our Bee Pollen has no bee product in it, it is entirely made from plant product and will not affect those people with bee sting allergies or allergies to bee venom used in ointments or rubs.
Can Potentiated Bee Pollen be used in a calorie controlled diet?
Yes, it can be used in either a protein or carbohydrate reduced diet.
